Reasons To Disagree

Communism is controlled capitalism in the form of a dictatorship. There has never been a truelly communist country, all attempts have failed and left behind a trail of death.

Where freedom of choice is suppressed democracy has become redundant.

1 August 2006

It is what the present administartion thinks. Wrong!!!!

16 August 2006

If communism is a-political then clearly it is not democratic per say. That said, where it has been adopted as the overiding theology it has predominantly been applied by autocrats - to the mortal disadvantage of millions. As an economic system it has generally failed. Example, the cold war was won by bankrupting the USSR. China's economic rise coincides with its gradual adoption of free market policies.

28 October 2007

Comumism is just Bureaucratic Capitalism; And Bureaucracies stifle individual decision making, and pervert the owner/operator feedback loop. Communism therefore is prima face anti-democratic.

27 December 2007

Communism is extreme and ignores the voices on the edges. Democracy is for self governance - Communism is not.

12 January 2008

Only if by democratic, you mean totalitarian, oppressive, and unfair.

4 November 2008

Communism is evil - as are all collective systems. The rational rights of the individual are paramount.

1 September 2009

By definition Communism is undemocratic but that isn't why Communism is evil

Reasons To Agree

Economic systems and governance are closely related. Governments enable companies to exist and the economic model is determined by which government is in place. Communism is more democratic than capitalism because it limits private ownership of large industry, and allows the workers and the consumers to have a say in the running of those companies.

30 August 2005

There is no government in communism, it is stateless and classless, for more information on real communism, don't read Lenin Or Trotsky, most modern communists diagree with there writings.

"SOCIALISM OR DEATH!" - hugo chavez

15 February 2006

Communism was made into a political doolah by people who wanted power and those who wanted to hold onto it. It's actually an economic system without the need of a government as everyone governs themselves and governs the economy collectively. It was also intended, though slightly, to be a cultural movement where prejudice and exploitation would be eliminated by satisfactory fulfilment of demand. It was never meant to be about dictatorships or weapons races.

15 April 2007

It can be. There are levels of communism. New Zealand is a very socialist country. Socialism is a form of Communism. New Zealand is a democracy.

24 December 2009

Reasons for Remain Neutral

As communism is an economic system, rather than a political form of governance, this question actually tests that understanding. Theoretically, there is no reason why a communist system cannot be democratic. Conversely, a communist system can be autocratic or authoritarian.

30 August 2005

Without an equitable economic model, there will never be a true democracy.

20 August 2006

what on earth is this question doing here ?

12 October 2007

Communism isnt as evil as some people think...it just have different ideal. Perhaps only the wealthy or hard working dont like the idea of equality??

1 June 2008

It could be. The reason it hasn't worked, doesn't work, and will never work, is that too high a proportion of the population are aren't prepared to give their all for an equal share of the cake with those who don't or can't contribute sufficiently.
