This is so emotive we are better to leave it to politicians. We hope that they can make a educated decision

Troop placement is very rarely about fighting a war and more often about meeting certain obligations to friends or allies. Public sentiment is too easily swayed by biased or inaccurate reporting.

Try Troops?

We should have a defense policy & treaties saying who our friends are. Govt should follow this policy.

The provision of law and order and the defence of NZ and its interests are bedrock responsibilities of Governments. They must also have the authority to acquit these responsibilities.

If you bother to vote in a general election it is to ensure the people you chose to represent you make the decisions with the information available - why employ them otherwise?

Yeah right - by the time you'd made up your mind it'd be too late anyway! BUT WE SHOULD INCLUDE AN MP IN EVERY SQUAD - TO KEEP THE MP'S HONEST, NOT THE SQUADDIES!

Reasons To Agree

Going to war in another land is a very concerning thing. Governments need the power to act quickly in cases of emergencies, but the people need to have the final say on whether the action is right. The people of a country should be able to recall their troops, children, siblings, partners and friends who are fighting or dying overseas. eg Vietnam

To a certain extent I would agree with this. But as has been said before me, the option to recall that decision would be pertinent indeed.

WAR IS POINTLESS!!!! Unless there is a very nutty nutcase on the loose somewhere, sending people off to die is a waste of HUMAN resources
