Reasons To Disagree

There should be no state funding of tv at all.

Providing it's on the air, I don't care where it's on. Different TV stations in NZ cater to different markets and demographics. Well and good.

TV networks appeal to different demographics. This means that two contrasting shows can air at the same time, and still be helped along the way by NZOA. The important thing about state broadcasting is that, because we all contribute to it, we should get as much out of it as we can; this means that state funded programs should cover as many different subject areas as possible.

Must admit ABC seems to work reasonably well but what I experience of NZ broadcasting I'm doubtful of their ability to emulate the Ozzies.

Reasons To Agree

Having had the pleasure of watching the ABC for several years, it's an acute shock to return to NZ and find no similar oasis on screens here - and not only the respite from advertising, but more importantly the quality of programming - both fiction and news & current affairs.

Yes. Sell TV2 and make TV1 an ad free service for quality educational and current affairs programming.

Saves time and money I guess but yes at the time, expensive...!

Reasons for Remain Neutral

Nice touchy feely stuff, but who pays ... Oh yeah me again .. Sorry guys yu've cleanedd my wallet out and I no longer have TV so I no longer care. Besides over half of what NZ on Air fund never gets finished, or is so sub standard its not worth watching. The rest is used to subsidise shows that didn't need the subsidy. But having just 25 Million to subsidise the TAB as a broadcaster in freeview why not ... who needs roads, or hospitals or Defence ... as long as we are entertained right ? How dunb is this discussion. aren't there bigger isses for us ?
