Reasons To Disagree

Although media and victims might demand it, it is a huge waste of money to complete a prosecution that the police know can't be won. Take Chris Kahui. It didn't matter who they prosecuted, him or his partner, both would have said the other one did it, but not until after the police had decided which one to prosecute. It's an impossible case to win, and the police were right to wait so long, but they should have just kept waiting until someones conscience got the better of them. I heard that it cost about 11 million to prosecute that case, yet every day other kids are abused. Imagine 11 million spent on advertising, womens refuges or more social workers. The media focused on this one too much, and forced the police to waste money on that prosecution. We can't turn back time to save those kids, but we can do something for the next child. Lets be fair to the police, they did their best, lets now save the next child.

The police need to be able to prove beyond doubt that they have the correct person, remember they only get one chance at it.

Who thought up this question? It is rediculous.

Reasons To Agree

Of course they should prosecute, what a silly question.

Reasons for Remain Neutral

Yet another dumb question! The decision to prosecute or not should not decided on the question of 'will we "win" the case or not?" If the police establish a prima face (spelling?) case it is their DUTY to prosecute. The trouble is that the law keeps proving itself to be the proverbial ass - some would say ass'ole - I couldn't possibly comment. As with the anti-smack crap. The law says a smack is a crime - ergo it follows, logically, the police should prosecute - but the law, stupidly, says er, well, perhaps not - YOU decide!
