minimum wages dont work - give people a share of state income (ie, shares in SOEs) so that they can choose not to work cheap
Potential employers should offer a fair wage for the job in accordance with what the particular business can afford. If nobody is prepared to take it on - the message is clear - they are not offering enough or the unenployment benefit is too attractive.
Not without an increase in productivity. Ultimately, increasing wages without increasing efficiency just dilutes the value of our currency.

Reasons To Agree
Minimum wages ensure everyone receives a fair rate of pay, and they give an indication to stingy boses what a fair rate of pay is.
People in other countries get paid more so why don't we. Also people delivering the paper get less than minimum wage so there are ways that it gets bypassed
Sure should, and maybe there would be more people willing to work, if you got paid more to work than being on benefit.
The price of living is steep, too steep for people on the current minimum wage- especially families. Increased cost of living should mean increased wages, or poverty will surely increase.
People are worked as slaves in this country, it's absolutely no surprise people choose to leave to Australia which is is in every way a much better country than NZ. Raise minimum wage to $18 p/hour absolute minimum!

I'm sitting on the fence with this one, on one hand it's a great idea don't get me wrong but on the other hand where will the government get this so called "higher minimum wage" from? Will it be from raising the tax on many other things that will in turn just leave our country in the same place we were before? Which would be where we are now, in an economy with rising costs. I believe if there were more jobs we would all be better off and there would be no need to raise the minimum wage.
I do agree minimum wage is shocking the liveable wage in NZ is $18 , but if minimum wage is raised everything will have more tax on it so really won't be better off in any way , so maybe leave it as is & if the employer sees potential and you work your arse off I'm sure you'll get a pay raise at some stage . Everyone has to start at the bottom
