Reasons To Disagree

We already pay too much tax, this will only help fill cullen's coffers more.

that's not going to decrease inflation - it will cause rents to go up & therefore increase inflation!

12 October 2007

Property speculators are already subject to capital gains tax. Arguably easy access to credit and migratory driven demand have a greater inflationary impact than the service provided by long term housing investors.

if nz had the most productive people, and the most expensive land, then we wouldn't have to worry about Shania twain!

13 December 2007

This is a stupid question. Taxing property investment would only INCREASE inflation as investors try to recover what the govt is taking away ( I nearly said stealing...)!

3 July 2008

WHY? It is up to the individual how they invest their own money. It's gummints spending, fiddling, and meddling that causes inflation - not investment!

Keynes is dead and his ideas dis-proven please stop clinging to Neo-Keynesian nonsense.

Reasons To Agree

A property tax would help curb property investors and provide some money to help first time buyers. Also, more stronger rules on property tax would remove the loopholes that only NZ property tax investers enjoy. In early response, property investment is not just an ordinary business, any business activity that actively pursues increasing property prices without realistic annual income returns, is not a real business, and not for the good of the country.

Property investments that run at a loss costs NZ a fortune in tax income. The only beneficiaries are the the invester minority who, believe it or not, are not providing NZ with a service of cheap rentals. They help drive up housing prices with borrowed equity money plus a tax payers contribution that assits growing inflation

doing up a house and onselling it for a profit has been a rather good way to make a tax free profit. This should be stopped.

4 November 2008

Agree. All my income is taxed. Why should property investors get off scot-free?
