Reasons To Disagree

The God of Christians, Muslim and Judism is the same God. Anybody else can "insert their god(s) here". Much of the world believe in a God, it is the churches that confuses the issue, and i don't see any reference to any specific religion in the NZ anthem. However, that said, we could do with a new anthem anyhow...

I personally think we have a fantastic National Anthem I would hate to see any one try to interfere with it.

Oh leave it alone, thats where pc comes in...

How can you take the God out of "God Defend New Zealand"? It just wouldn't work. You'd have to choose a different song instead. How about Pokarekare ana? It's a melodic song, doesn't mention god, is widely known, associated with NZ, and is even in a language unique to NZ.

Its part of our history!

Our nathional anthem is one of the best I heard anywhere around the world - don't fix something that is not broken!

28 October 2007

Oh, please. That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Next thing you know, if a singer mentions God in one of their songs, they'll be asked to rerecord it without mentioning His holy name.

Who will defend our land?

20 May 2009

why????? God created everything. God should be acknowledged in a way...

11 June 2009

God is our heritage, God is still our culture. You don't have to believe in God, you can still sing the anthem with pride. Read all 5 verses of the anthem, it describes the intentions of a perfectly peaceful nation and the NZ which Christians and Non-Christians both believe in

Which national anthem - we have two

Reasons To Agree

Other countries around the world sing their anthem with pride and their anthem sings about trials, overcomming war, death and have survived they have pide in their history and their culture and dont need to ask god to save them because some time you need to save yourself. Why can not be proud of our Heritage?

Since there is no such thing as god and belief in a god is not a requisite for being a Kiwi it's pointless refering to god in the Nat Anthem. When all is said and done, a "nat anthem" is only a tribal song and serves no purpose other than giving tribalists a warm, fuzzy feeling.

It should be re-written period. It's bloody awful.

Non-religious people feel as if god, the exsistence of god, and the belief in god is being forced upon them by references to god being in the National Anthem. They are being forced to acknowledge and support something they do not believe in, its exactly the same as a buddist being forced to pray to christ, it is not fair or respectful. Without the references to god people can still acknowledge the exsistence of any god they choose. If we continue to include these references we will continue to ostracize and disrespect the beliefs of the non-religious

17 December 2011

I don't necessarily think the references should be removed, but it needs rewriting, definitely. It sucks.

Reasons for Remain Neutral

yeah change it to 'people' of the nations...

9 March 2008

I interpret the line "God of nations at thy feet" to imply that New Zealand its self is the god of nations. in other words, the nation its self is the better of all others.
