Reasons To Disagree
I don't think this is fair. The employer should give the employee a reason because they might be discriminating against a person and no one will ever know and we cannot discriminate against others because its against the law

Reasons To Agree
Yes - it will encourage emplyers to give a potential employee the chance to prove his worth without saddling the employer with an un-sackable layabout.
The fact that employers aren't compelled to give a reason doesn't mean that they cannot give one. We could hope that both employer and employee are reasonable people who could reach an amicable parting of the ways.
Provided - and this is an important qualifier,I feel - that measures as to notice, payouts etc still apply.
Employers should be able to fire on the spot.
If someone is a good worker why would you get rid of him. If someone is an asshole boss why would you work for him
