Reasons To DisagreeWhy is there such a focus on unemployment levels? Should we be looking a the number of people in paid employment as a better indicator of the economy. Unemployment figures can be too easily disguised as sickness beneficiaries, mothers / fathers at home looking after family, students, etc. 31 August 2005
Low unemployment helps the economy, but it doesn't give employers more employees to choose from, in fact there are less potential employees available. 7 September 2005
Employees would have a better range of prospective employees from a pool of motivated currently employed people who are looking for a change. It would also mean that conditions for employees would improve as employers would have to compete for staff. 1 October 2007
I agree - A contradiction: ==> shows people HAVE to work to live, and jobs are hard 2 fill. Double negative 13 December 2007
Low unemployment reduces the pool of available workers and drives wages up as employers need to compete for workers and pay them more. This in turn fuels inflation by driving prices up. 28 October 2008
Poland when it first made the switch from Communism to a Market Economy suggest 5% unemployed any less might give unions too much power and people who can remember the effects of the 1950s Wharfers strike that nearly crippled the country still have bad memories to recall. But if we are going to have unemployment let make the money we pay to have them unemployed link to increases in Company and Business Tax. 14 October 2013

Reasons To Agreea low level unemployment rate would take power away from companies as there will less core stock (people) to xchange as they see fit, engineering will soon replace human interaction so look after the future as the future will not look after you 18 February 2010

Reasons for Remain Neutral
This question is a contradiction. It should be "Maintaining a low level of unemployment hinders the economy because employers have a lesser range of employees to choose from
Excuse me! I hope you haven't had any "serious" answers to this dumb question. How on earth can a low level of employment result in a greater range of employees to choose from? Was this written by yet another silly trade unionist who doesn't have a clue what he's talking about?
