Reasons To Disagreewe can afford both - we have had $30billion in budget surpluses in the last 5 years!!! 12 October 2007
Why is this even a serious question? 6 November 2007
That would be unpopular and silly. However, a review of benefits might be appropriate to see if there is anyway to make them less costly to administer 28 October 2008
not if you want a revolution here,,,, unemployement is going up and when the defensive shares lose 50% within 6 to 12 months with a way overpriced share market the dole que will be the biggest it has ever been ... beware Westpac Australia is heavily exposed... 17 September 2013

Reasons To AgreeBenefit payments that are higher than the average wage are insulting, but simply lowering (or rasing) dollar values is only a band aid. The real goal must be to move people from welfare dependency to Personal income and personal freedom. Untill people can create their own wealth they will never move from being dependent. Once this is done the amount per person could be increased for those who cannot work, and decreased or removed for those who WILL NOT work. 19 June 2006
increasing tax reduces income which necessitates welfare. let's be smart and do the opposite! 13 December 2007
Absolutely - look after those that deserve help but get the remainder off benefits 28 September 2008
While I believe that there are some genuinely unfortunate people that don't have many options and much going for them, there are hundreds of thousands of people that have no need to earn money and as such, make no real attempt to do so. Welfare should be dropped completely and thus, tax should be dropped accordingly. 6 June 2011
Benefits are theft 5 October 2012
Definitely. I think benefit make people lazy. They think they don't have to work as the government will give them money. Unless they have families with kids I don't think they deserve a benefit. Singapore has no benefit for their people. They force their people to save money just like kiwisaver 16 October 2012

Reasons for Remain Neutral
The individual benefits should not be lowered, but we should be doing more to get those who can working.
